Maintenance

Under current law, maintenance claims are automatically transferred to the Hagen Job Center up to the amount of benefits under SGB II and are asserted by us.

In general, a primary maintenance obligation exists in the case of

• Parents of minor, unmarried children
• Parents of privileged adult, unmarried children without a school or vocational education—including those due to illness—who have not yet reached the age of 25
• unmarried mothers/fathers
• separated spouses
• divorced spouses
• separated registered partners whose partnership has been dissolved

If you are eligible for benefits, the person responsible for child support (the father or mother of the child or children) will be notified of this by the Hagen Job Center and asked to provide information about their income and financial circumstances. There is an obligation to provide this information to the Job Center.

If this review determines that the person obligated to pay child support is able to make payments, a payment demand will be issued. Since these are claims under private law, no objection to this demand is possible.

Advance Child Support (UVG)

If you do not receive child support for your children, you have the option to apply for an advance on child support (UVG).

UVG (advance child support payments) are social benefits for single parents. You are eligible if the biological parent is not paying child support for the child living with you. UVG and basic income support can be paid simultaneously. UVG is counted as income toward your child’s monthly needs.

The Youth Welfare Office of the City of Hagen is responsible for this matter.
