Separation
Have you separated and someone from your household is moving out of your shared home, and you have questions about this?
To notify us of the separation in writing, please use the change notification form "VÄM."
Change notification
If you are married, you should provide proof of separation by means of a declaration of separation. You can submit this to the tax office, which will issue you with a confirmation. Please submit this proof to us together with the VÄM form (notification of change).
If you are not married and you or your partner have already left the shared home, please provide us with proof of this in the form of a registration certificate.
If the separation is initially taking place in the shared household, please notify us of this using the VÄM form (notification of change).
Your benefits will be calculated from the date of separation without taking into account your partner's needs and income. Your home will also be re-evaluated for suitability. For information on what happens if your home is unsuitable and when this is the case, please refer to the section on housing.
If the partner who has moved out still requires basic security benefits, they must submit a new application.
