Birth of a child
If you are expecting a child or have already given birth, there are various forms of financial support available.
Maternity logbook
Please submit a medical certificate stating the expected date of delivery immediately. Please do not send us a copy of the maternity log, as we are not permitted to include this in the file for data protection reasons.
After the birth, we need a copy of the birth certificate immediately. You can send it by mail, drop it in the mailbox, upload it to your jobcenter.digital portal, or deliver it in person during our opening hours.
Child benefit
Your child is entitled to child benefit. Child benefit must be applied for at the family benefits office. The family benefits office for North Rhine-Westphalia East is responsible for your application. Further information is available at Arbeitsagentur.de/Familienkasse.
You must apply for parental allowance during maternity leave and parental leave. The Dortmund Pension Fund is responsible for your application. Further information on parental allowance is available at the Pension Office (parental allowance).
If the child's father does not live with you in a joint household, we require the UH (maintenance) form in addition to the birth certificate. This form must contain details of the child's father. We also require the acknowledgment of paternity and, if available, the maintenance order.
If you already know that the child's father is unable to pay child support, please apply for advance child support payments (UVG) for the child. The Youth Welfare Office of the City of Hagen is responsible for your application.
