In training - BAföG
Those who are eligible for BAföG funding for training or study are not usually entitled to additional citizen's income. However, there are special exceptional situations and cases of hardship that may result in entitlement to citizen's income.
Trainees who are completing school-based training and do not have sufficient financial resources during their training can apply for BAföG. The amount of the benefit is based on fixed BAföG rates.
If you are studying at a university, living in your parents' household, and receiving BAföG, you may still be eligible for additional citizen's income. Students who live in their own household are not eligible for citizen's income.
If you are enrolled in an eligible training program and do not receive Bafög because you do not meet the personal requirements, you will not receive citizen's income. This applies, for example, to Bafög rejections due to:
- Exceeding the maximum age
- second education
- Maximum funding period exceeded
- Late change of major
