In Education – BAföG
Those who are eligible to receive BAföG for vocational training or higher education are generally not entitled to additional basic income support. However, there are special exceptional circumstances and cases of hardship that may result in eligibility for basic income support.
Apprentices who are completing a school-based apprenticeship and do not have sufficient financial resources during their training may apply for BAföG. The amount of financial assistance is based on fixed BAföG need-based rates.
If you are studying at a college or university, live in your parents’ household, and receive BaföG, you may still be eligible for basic income support under certain circumstances. Students who live in their own household are not eligible for basic income support.
If you are enrolled in an eligible training program and do not receive BaföG because you do not meet the personal eligibility requirements, you will not receive basic income support. This applies, for example, to BaföG denials due to:
- Exceeding the Age Limit
- Secondary Education
- Maximum funding period exceeded
- Changing Majors Too Late
