Housing Allowance
Housing allowance is a social benefit provided to low-income families to help them pay their housing costs. Housing allowance is also intended to prevent recipients from having to rely on basic income support. The housing cost subsidy can be granted to tenants of an apartment or a room, to subtenants, as well as to owners of a house or a condominium (mortgage subsidy).
Housing Allowance & Citizen’s Income
Housing allowance cannot be received at the same time as basic income support. If you are already receiving basic income support, you should only apply for housing allowance if the housing allowance is sufficient to cover your living expenses and will allow you to stop receiving basic income support.
