General information
What should be considered in general?
Accommodation and heating costs are part of the basic income support provided under Book II of the Social Code (SGB II) – citizen's income.
The costs that are actually incurred when renting a dwelling and are reasonable are taken into account as monthly requirements, provided that the rental is private and not commercial.
In order to verify the actual costs incurred, it is necessary to submit a signed rental agreement and, if available, the most recent utility bill.
The costs for rental properties generally include:
- Basic rent/net cold rent
- Additional costs (cold operating costs) that may be passed on to the tenant in accordance with the law
- Heating costs - Costs for renting garages and parking spaces cannot be covered.

Personal data collected by the job center is subject to social security confidentiality. The disclosure of social data is subject to prior authorization. Information relating to individual cases and tenant data may only be disclosed if the tenant has given the Jobcenter written permission to do so. If this permission has not been given, we cannot provide you with any information, either by telephone or in writing. This also includes inquiries as to why rent has not been paid despite a direct payment request.
Any discrepancies regarding the tenancy agreement must be clarified directly with your contractual partner, the tenant, as there is no legal relationship between you and the Jobcenter.
