My power has been cut off. What can I do?
Contact your electricity provider and request to pay in installments. If this is not possible, you can apply for a loan to cover the debt.
To do this, you will need: the application form, a current statement of account from your electricity supplier (no older than 5 days), the disconnection notice, and proof that payment by installments is not possible.

What is housing allowance?
Housing allowance is a social benefit that low-income families receive to help them pay their housing costs. Housing allowance is income-dependent and can be applied for both rented accommodation and owner-occupied property (condominium or single-family home).
Am I eligible for additional housing assistance?
Housing assistance cannot be received at the same time as basic income support. If you are already receiving basic income support, you should only apply for housing assistance if it is sufficient to cover your living expenses and allow you to stop receiving basic income support. If you have an income and need financial assistance to cover your rent, you can apply for housing assistance.
Where can I apply for housing benefit?
The city of Hagen is responsible for processing housing benefit applications. Further information on housing benefit applications can be found on the website of the city of Hagen or at the following link.

Can I rent a new apartment and sign the lease agreement?
You should only sign a new rental agreement once your case worker has given you confirmation that your move will be approved. You will only receive confirmation if you provide a valid reason for the move and have found a new, suitable apartment.
Please note: Even if you are in the so-called waiting period, we can only grant approval for relocation if the accommodation costs are reasonable.
The rule that the actual costs of accommodation are covered during the waiting period, even if these are unreasonable, only applies to apartments that were already occupied before the application was submitted (existing apartments).
Do I need a moving permit?
You do not generally need permission. However, as you are receiving public benefits, you should apply to the Jobcenter for confirmation of your move. If you move without obtaining permission from your Jobcenter or if the Jobcenter has rejected your move, the maximum amount that will be covered is the rent that you have been receiving up to now.
Future heating and operating costs cannot be covered, or may only be covered in part.
My new apartment is a little too expensive. Can I get a guarantee?
Even if you agree to pay the difference between the fair and actual rent yourself, or if the apartment is only slightly overpriced, no assurance can be given.
A guarantee can only be given if the new rent is reasonable. There is no room for discretion.

What costs can I claim for my move?

Only the necessary costs will be covered, i.e. only the costs for a rented transport vehicle. Three cost estimates are required for this. Additional costs can only be covered in exceptional cases.
Does the job center cover the security deposit?
In the case of an approved move, the deposit can be paid as a loan. However, this is only the case if the deposit for the old apartment is insufficient or if the deposit cannot be paid from existing savings/assets.

Repayment is made through monthly deductions (withholdings) amounting to 5% of your standard benefit. You will receive a loan notification.

My housing costs are too high—do I have to move?
Have we informed you in writing that your apartment is too expensive? This does not mean that we are forcing you to move. We will cover your actual rent up to the date specified in the letter. If you do not submit your rent expenses by the specified date, we will only pay the reasonable costs stated in the letter.
The difference between this amount and your actual rent will not be taken into account. You will then have to pay this difference yourself. You are not required to reduce your costs by moving. You can also do so in other ways, such as by subletting or similar measures.
